Technical Analysis

Tradable Patterns - Natural Gas (CME NG May19) Weekly/Daily/4hr

Natural Gas (NG) edged up almost 1% yesterday, bumping up against ascending wedge resistance (on the 4hr chart) and the 61.8% Fib retrace of the Dec-Feb fall before giving way to profittaking.  Significantly, NG appears close to completing its month long consolidation above downchannel resistance (on the weekly chart) and gearing up for a resumption of its major bounce off the Feb low.  With the highly anticipated weekly storage data released Thursday at 1030am EST, NG will likely consolidate another day today before volatility spikes.  The weekly, daily and 4hr RSI, Stochastics and MACD are bottomish, rallying or consolidating recent gains.  I am looking at entering long in the green zone (of the daily chart), targeting the red zone for Friday.  The amber/yellow zone is where I might place a stop if I was a swing trader (although in my personal account with which I seldom hold overnight I sometimes set my stops tighter).

As seen on Bloomberg, Refinitiv (Thomson Reuters), Factset, Interactive Brokers, Inside Futures, Amazon, Liquid (Quoine) and Zerohedge, Tradable Patterns was launched to demonstrate that the patterns recurring in liquid futures, spot FX and cryptocurrency markets can be analyzed to enhance trading performance. Tradable Patterns’ daily newsletter provides technical analysis on a subset of three CME/ICE/ (commodities and equity indices) and spot FX markets, which it considers worth monitoring for the day/week for trend reversal or continuation. Crypto Weekly Outlook offers technical analysis on Bitcoin (BTCUSD), Ethereum (ETHUSD) and Ripple (XRPUSD) and attempts to provide clues as to what might happen in the coming week.  For less experienced traders, tutorials and workshops are offered online and throughout Southeast Asia.

Tradable Patterns - S&P500 (ES) 3 Month Ascending Wedge Nearing End Ahead of FOMC

The S&P500 (ES) continued grinding higher this past week and is bumping up against ascending wedge resistance (on the 4hr, daily and weekly chart).  The ES will likely consolidate going into Wednesday's US rate announcement and FOMC released at 2pm EST, with traders bracing for volatility soon after.  Regardless of the reaction to the FOMC, traders will continue remaining on edge for any developments around the Article 50 extension vote from the EU this Thursday and the ongoing US and China trade deal negotiations.  The weekly, daily and 4hr Stochastics are turning increasingly toppish, but currently still offset by the rallying or bottomish weekly, daily and 4hr RSI and MACD.  I am looking at entering short in the red zone (of the daily chart), targeting the green zone for Monday.  The amber/yellow zone is where I might place a stop if I was a swing trader (although in my personal account with which I seldom hold overnight I sometimes set my stops tighter).

Tradable Patterns - Soybean (ZS) Daily MACD Trying to Positively Cross

Soybean (ZS) is seeing some profittaking to start the week in today's Asia morning after rallying more than 1% Friday.  Significantly, ZS is trying to form a higher March low versus the September low after breaking below ascending triangle support (on the weekly chart) early March.  ZS will likely consolidate at least a few days as it bumps up against downchannel resistance (on the 4hr chart) and former triangle support (now resistance on the daily chart).  Traders will continue remaining on edge this week for any developments around the ongoing US and China trade deal negotiations.  Except for the weekly MACD which still slopes slightly down, the weekly, daily and 4hr RSI, Stochastics and MACD are bottomish, rallying or consolidating recent gains.  I will prepare to go long on a decisive break above the weekly chart ascending triangle resistance.

Technical Analysis

Tradable Patterns - Cotton (CT) Consolidating Just Below Key .75 Level

Cotton (CT) slid nearly 2% in profittaking yesterday, falling back below the psychologically key .75 whole figure level.  Although there is a slight chance of CT weakening further in the next day or so to upchannel support (on the 4hr chart), bulls are increasingly buying on dips eyeing Wednesday's break above the downtrend resistance line (on the daily chart) coinciding roughly with .75 and downchannel resistance (on the weekly chart).  The weekly and daily RSI, Stochastics and MACD are bottomish, rallying or consolidating recent gains.  I am flat after profitably closing longs yesterday and am looking at re-entering long in the green zone (of the daily chart), targeting the red zone for Tuesday.  The amber/yellow zone is where I might place a stop if I was a swing trader (although in my personal account with which I seldom hold overnight I sometimes set my stops tighter).

Technical Analysis

Tradable Patterns - GBPUSD Retests 50% Fib Retrace of Apr-Jan Fall Ahead of Brexit Vote

The GBPUSD rallied a massive 300 pips yesterday at one point on the UK parliamentary vote against a no-deal Brexit, forming a new 2019 high before getting rejected at ascending triangle resistance (on the 4hr chart).  Significantly, yesterday's surge halted at the 50% Fib retrace of the April to January fall before yielding to healthy profittaking.  With another vote today on whether the Brexit deadline/Article 50 gets postponed beyond Mar 29, the GBPUSD is due for more volatility today (likely in the form of a deeper selloff after this week's impressive gains).  Nevertheless, longer term bulls will take advantage of any notable dip today particularly as the GBPUSD gears up towards decisively breaking horizontal resistance (on the weekly chart) and continuing its ascending wedge/upchannel (on the daily chart).  The weekly and daily RSI, Stochastics and MACD are bottomish, rallying or consolidating recent gains.  I am looking at entering long in the green zone (of the daily chart), targeting the red zone for Tuesday.  The amber/yellow zone is where I might place a stop if I was a swing trader (although in my personal account with which I seldom hold overnight I sometimes set my stops tighter).
